Shopify accessibility remediation

We fix your Shopify store's accessibility in the code, and give you dated proof.

Not a widget. Not a subscription you forget about. We work in a duplicate of your theme, fix what is broken, and hand back a preview theme plus a conformance report with the date, the tools and the versions on it. $890, flat.

Automated testing detects roughly 30% of WCAG success criteria. The rest needs a person at a keyboard, which is why we do those checks by hand and write down what we found.

The part scanners miss

Three keyboard checks decide whether a shopper can buy.

A scan will not tell you that a keyboard-only shopper cannot pick a size. A person pressing Tab will. We run these three by hand on every sprint and record the result.

Illustration, drawn in this page's own markup. A visible focus ring is what a keyboard shopper needs in order to know which size is selected. On many themes there is nothing here at all.

  • Variant picker. Can a keyboard-only shopper select size or colour on a product page?
  • Cart drawer. Does focus move into the drawer when it opens, and can Escape close it?
  • Mobile nav. Can the hamburger menu be opened and traversed with Tab, Enter and Escape?

What we fix

The six failures that account for most of what is wrong on a Shopify store: low-contrast text, missing image alt text, unlabelled form fields, empty links, empty buttons, and missing page language.

Plus the three flows that actually stop a sale, tested by hand with a keyboard.

What you receive

  • A preview theme URL you review before anything goes live.
  • A remediation log naming every file we touched and which WCAG criterion it addresses.
  • A dated conformance report covering what we tested, what we fixed, and what we did not fix and why.

You publish the theme yourself. We never publish.

How long it takes

Five business days from the moment we have theme access.

We ask for a staff account with Themes permission only. Never orders, never customer data.

The market, with sources

Why this is worth doing.

95.9%

of home pages tested in the 2026 WebAIM Million had detected WCAG failures, at an average of 56.1 errors per page.

WebAIM Million 2026

75.1

average errors per home page on Shopify stores in the same study, a third above the overall average.

WebAIM Million 2026

5,000+

US digital accessibility lawsuits were filed in 2025. Around 70% were against ecommerce, and 64% against companies under $25M in revenue.

UsableNet 2025 lawsuit report

1,407

of those lawsuits were filed against sites that already had an accessibility widget installed. The widget did not stop the claim.

In the EU, the European Accessibility Act has applied to covered services, ecommerce among them, since 28 June 2025.

Those are facts about the market. They are not a prediction about your store, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

What we are not.

  • Not a widget or overlay.

We do not inject JavaScript that tries to patch your site at runtime. We change theme code, you review it, you publish it. If we disappeared tomorrow, your fixes would still be there.

  • Not a law firm.

Nothing we write is legal advice and the report is not a legal opinion. On your actual exposure, talk to your own counsel.

  • Not a guarantee of any legal outcome.

No one can sell you that. Anybody who says otherwise is selling you something else.

  • Not a certification.

The report is a record of what was tested and what was remediated on a specific date, by named people, with named tool versions. That is a genuinely useful document. It is not a compliance badge.

  • Not complete coverage.

Automated testing detects roughly 30% of WCAG success criteria. Keyboard operability, focus management and screen-reader flow need a human, which is why we do those by hand and say so in the report.

  • Not able to touch checkout.

Shopify controls checkout. We cannot change it, we will tell you that in writing, and it goes in the report under known remaining items.
